The Costume:
A Vaporeon TF by Drekian

The day was dull and grey. The last few days of October were almost always like this, but usually with some stroke of luck, it would end up clear. Or at the worst, the sky would be overcast. This year the rain showed no sign of stopping and it looked like it would be a soggy Halloween. It was the night before and the rain was still pounding relentlessly down. I was spending the time browsing around online and admiring some of the awesome costumes that people had created. My costume this year wasn't terrible but I was hardly satisfied with anything I did myself. It looked like it would be another one of those years where the last night before Halloween was spent running around gathering things to polish up my costume. The website I was on had given me a few ideas of what I could do to improve what I already had.

Plus this website had everything. The first thing that caught my eye was a sleek, realistic dragon creature with rather large fangs. After that I had spent a few hours literally drooling over their entire selection and in the end I had to turn off my computer before I pulled out my credit card and blew all my cash.

I gathered my wallet and house keys and stepped out into the rain. It was seriously coming down and within a few seconds I was soaked through. But the store would be closing soon so I had to get there fast.

Thankfully the store was not too far from home and before long I was stood in one of their aisles, dripping water everywhere and staring at the scant selection left on the shelves. I'd nearly forgotten it was the night before Halloween. They were out of almost everything I needed.

I flagged down an employee who looked seriously disgruntled. He walked over and I tried my best to give him a warm smile. He just scrunched his rounded face and gave me a sour, judgemental look. I winced slightly.
"Yes, what? What do you want?" he barked.
I was taken aback at the rudeness, "I... was just wondering if you had anything in the back?"
"All our Halloween stuff is on the shelves. There is nothing else."

He turned to walk away.
"Wait!"
"What?"
"Are you sure? I mean, I just need some face paint... That's the most important thing."
"No, we're out. Try our other store."
"That's the other side of town. Can you call them and ask if they have it so I don't waste my time getting there?"

The man's face twisted and reddened like he was going to scream at me, but he somehow managed to restrain himself. In a strangely calm voice he replied, "fine."

I followed him to the front of the store and waited as he picked up his phone and practically yelled for blue face paint. Then he slammed the phone into its holster.

"They're out. Happy Halloween."
I looked at the floor and mumbled, "jerk."
"What was that?"
"Nothing..."

The employee walked away.
I left the store and started home, vowing that after the weekend I'd call the store manager and report him. But the thing that made me more angry was the fact that I'd be the ugliest creature around this Halloween. I had some face paint I'd purchased a few weeks ago, just not the particular shade of light blue I needed.

And it was just my luck. By the time I could see my home in the distance, the rain had slowed and the clouds had began to break up. I honestly didn't mind the rain. I liked water, but it was pretty cold out and being wet in this weather meant I could get sick.

I turned and walked up my drive, feeling pretty down at how bad this Halloween would be. I was trying to convince myself that my costume wouldn't be terrible but after seeing those costumes online I felt  rather inferior.

I had placed my key in the door when the sound of a vehicle pulling up behind me made me turn. It was a mail truck. A postal worker hopped out and dragged a large, brown box from the seat beside her.

"Are ya Leroy?"
"Um, yes?"
"I.D. please?"

I dug in my pocket and pulled out my wallet. She snatched it out of my hands and held it up, flexed it, made a few clucking noises, stared at me, then handed it back.

"Sign here please."
"Okay..." I scribbled something random on the PDA she handed me.
She smiled and said, "have a nice day!" then hopped in her car and screeched off.

I was left starting dumbfounded at the box. There was no return address. I hadn't ordered anything nor had any of my friends sent me anything that I knew of. All that was visible on the box was some logo that looked like a large H and C had been twisted together alongside of some Asian characters and numbers that made no sense to me.

I picked it up. It was light for its size. I shook it a few times. There was a dull thumping inside of the box but it didn't sound dangerous. Plus, it had gotten through customs so it couldn't be anything that bad.

I took it inside of my house and grabbed my knife then carefully cut through the packing tape. The box practically sprung open. What I saw inside made me blink with shock.

"Is this..." I mumbled as I picked it up and ran it through my fingers. Shiny blue material spilled over my hands and back into the box as I stared at it with shock. But it was undeniable. The hollow eyes of the thing stared up at me from within the box. Its head was flat and its body folded and ruffled. But it was a Vaporeon costume.

I couldn't contain my excitement. I picked it up by the shoulders and laughed out loud. It was soft, very supple, and so smooth. The material almost seemed to some sort of Lycra fabric, not like the cheap fleece I'd used for my costume. And as I tugged at it, it stretched and flowed through my hands. I pushed my hands into the hole in the back and through the head to give it some form. It was eerily realistic once the head was pushed out. It looked like the shell of the real thing.

And a second later I was in my washroom, naked, holding the costume in front of myself in the mirror. It looked a little bit small but was beautiful regardless. Another second later and I'd slipped a single leg through the slit down the back. The inside of the costume was cool and smooth and stretched around my feet. Then I realized I'd put my foot in the tail. I quickly adjusted the costume so my foot lined up with one of the legs. It definitely was a bit too small, but the material stretched so it would probably fit. I pushed my other leg inside. Soon the lower half of my body looked smooth and shiny blue. The paws that had replaced my feet even looked pretty good considering how thin the material of the costume was. I continued to slide the costume on, slowly pulling the slick material over my waist.

I slipped one of my arms into the forelegs and then the other and pulled the shoulders up over my own. The costume was quite tight. Almost too tight. That didn't stop me though. I tugged on the other shoulder and pushed my arm within. The forepaws made it difficult to move my fingers but I somehow managed to grip onto the head and force it over my own.

'It's gonna definitely need some facepaint around the eyes...' I thought as I tugged at the suit to smooth out some wrinkles. I took a few steps around the room, feeling the tightness of the suit stretching around my body. It felt nice and now that it was on, definitely fitting a bit better. The only problem was the tail. It was bent and limp behind me. As I walked it just dangled there instead of bobbling up and down. It would need some sort of padding.

I shrugged it off and decided to enjoy a bit of time getting used to the suit. I'd be wearing it all night tomorrow, so I thought there'd be no harm.

A few minutes of bouncing around the house and I had to stop. I was breathing heavily. Maybe the suit was just a bit too tight. It felt like the thing was cutting off my breath.

I felt for the crease on the back with my blue forepaw for a few moments and grumbled when I couldn't find it. The thin material of the suit was cutting off my feeling and the paws were having trouble hooking on the tight material. I walked over to the mirror and stopped dead. I was staring into my eyes. One was green and the other was yellow. That was normal. But something else was off. It almost looked like my skin was turning blue.

The suit suddenly constricted. My paws slashed at the mask. I started hyperventilating and gasping for air. It was tightening more and more; so tight now that I could barely breath. I collapsed, huffing and twitching and groaning as it only got tighter and tighter. I could see myself in the mirror and I could see that something was definitely wrong. Not only was the skin around my eyes turning blue, but I could barely see the line between the material of the mask and my face. I pawed at it again and whimpered. What I felt wasn't fabric, but something smooth and solid, almost like actual jaws.

"Nooo-" I whined. I couldn't feel my hands anymore. They were tightly balled up in the paws of the suit allowing no movement of my fingers. I started with awe as  I tried to wiggle my fingers, but only the toes of the paws responded. Waves of icy cold washed down my back and I shivered. I tried to see what was happening but my eyes wouldn't focus that far back. All I could see was a blue blur and a fin stretching the length of my back and down towards the tail... which didn't look so limp anymore.

I spun around and collapsed to the ground. My arms weren't arms anymore, and they didn't want to bend that way. The tail of the suit whacked into the mirror and nearly shattered it from the weight of the thing. I could actually feel the tail as it hit the mirror, a dull spasm of pain shooting up my spine. It felt like someone was pulling on my backside, tugging it farther and farther out, stretching my tailbone beyond its limits. It was almost as if my body was made out of elastic. And soon the thing was suspended behind me, wiggling and twitching back and forth as the suit constricted farther around my hind legs.

With a whine and a gasp I tried to tug the suit off of my rear to no avail. The paws that my hands had become were fairly useless for gripping and didn't want to cooperate with what my mind told them to do. In the end I just lay back, watching with disconnected awe as the suit rippled and tightened around me. Muscles formed and my body reshaped more and more, then, as quickly as it had began, it was all over.

'W-what am I?' I thought. I gingerly pushed myself up and looked myself over.
'What do you think, eh?'
I yelped and tried to exclaim some profanity in shock but all that came out was a  warbling cat-like noise. So I resorted to focusing my thoughts into a coherent sentence. 'Huh? Who was that?!'
'I'm the suit,' the voice echoed through my mind.
'What did you do to me?!'
'Just doing what you wanted, eh? You wanted to be a realistic Vaporeon for Halloween. So what's better then actually being a Vaporeon?'
'Well, is it permanent?'

I didn't get an answer. I sighed with resignation. It was true, I supposed. The suit did seem rather cool. And it didn't seem to be hurting me anymore.

'So you gonna just sit here moping all day or are you gonna try it out?'
'Gimme a second. I'm still getting used to it!'

I slowly rolled myself onto all four paws and looked around the room. The only recognizable thing about me was my eye colour. It was kinda intriguing, how fluid my body felt now. As I slowly got used to moving again, I couldn't help but notice how sleek it felt. It was almost as if I was no longer solid when I walked, like I was made out of-... I looked down at my forepaws and blinked a few times.

'Yes, you are a full Vaporeon,' the suit almost read my mind.
'How did you know what I was thinking?' I asked it.
'Do you really need to ask that question?'

I shook my head and nudged my way past the shower curtain standing over the drain. 'Will this work?'
'Why don't you try?'
'Well, I don't know exactly where this drain goes...'
'Lets find out then.'

I closed my eyes and concentrated on the deepest depths of my mind. Somewhere within something clicked and I felt myself collapse to the floor of the shower.

'Hey! Open your eyes!'

I did. I was lying in a puddle of water. 'Woah!' I replied.
'Yeah, just a little bit more!' the suit urged.

This time I kept my eyes open. I looked down at my paws as I focused on that feeling of fluidity. Soon I heard dripping. My paws were going clear. I yelped and back-paddled into the wall of the shower.

'Don't be afraid... You can't get hurt...'

So I focused a final time. The same feeling of wetness washed over me and  I felt myself sliding forward. My body started collapsing around me then with a sudden rush of water I was everywhere, seeing everything around me, splashing all through the shower then with a satisfied feeling I felt myself slide down the drain.
